* It seems even supermodels get starstruck. Molly Sims is sipping ginger ale at an outdoor table at the Chateau Marmont, the legendary Hollywood hotel, when she leans forward, her eyes wide and her voice lowered to a whisper. "Did you see who's sitting there?" she asks. "John Leguizamo. He is so awesome."
Clearly, you can take the girl out of Murray, Kentucky (population: 14,950), but yon can't take Murray out of Molly. She's been working with a speech coach to lose her soft Southern accent, but it still comes out when she's relaxed. And though she's carrying a Balenciaga bag (this season's, of course), she's hardly a fashion snob. "I love a good knockoff," says Molly; who is makeup-free and dressed in a white button-down shirt and jeans. A gold heart-shaped locket--a gift from her actor boyfriend Enrique Murciano, who stars on the CBS drama Without a Trace--dangles from her neck.
Though Molly is undeniably sexy (exhibit A: this month's Cosmo cover), she manages to exude a friendly, smart (she studied at Vanderbilt University for two years) supermodel next-door appeal. And that quality is serving her burgeoning acting career well. She is currently starring in the new NBC drama Las Vegas and will make her big-screen debut next spring in Starsky and Hutch. Vegas creator Gary Scott Thompson considered her a sure bet after personally seeing 75 actresses for the role. "There's a line in the first Vegas script where a character says, "She may actually be worth dying for,' ,and Molly was the only actress I saw who I could believe that about," says Thompson. "I think she's at the beginning of a very long, successful career."
Listen in as Molly talks about switching from modeling to acting, bouncing back from heartbreak, and loving the simple things in life.
You're clearly thrilled about Las Vegas. What do you like best about it?
It's a huge east, which is good, because with an ensemble, there's less pressure. Nothing is resting on your shoulders alone. And it is an opportunity to be surrounded by really great actors such as James Caan.
Tell us about your character, Delinda. We hear she's really hot.
