Technology Program Faces Another Delay. The IRS had hoped to launch the first phase of its new Customer Account Data Engine (CADE) this fall, but another setback has postponed the launch until the 2004 tax-filing season.
CADE is a program aimed at modernizing the IRS's taxpayer master files. When fully operational, the CADE database will house tax information for more than 200 million individual and business taxpayers. It replaces the magnetic tape-based system that has been used for 40 years.
