After his concert CDs with the likes of Sting and the Spice Girls, it's surprising that it took Luciano Pavarotti so long to release his first solo album of Italian pop songs. But now Pavarotti gives us "Ti Adoro." We almost said he rapped with NEWSWEEK's Jennifer Ordonez, but we don't want to give the guy any more ideas.

Are opera fans handling this all right?

I don't know. I hope. It was at least 20 years that my record company asked me to do this album. I always say, "I don't want to do pop."
