GPC negotiators attempted to win preferred-provider status for GPs in enhanced services but failed, it has been revealed.

Last week, negotiators admitted that during the new GMS contract negotiations they were persuaded by 'quite reasonable arguments from the other side' that having first refusal for enhanced services would lead to too many practical difficulties.

Instead they agreed to protection only for GPs already providing services under local development schemes.
