RAYNAL: As a toy, or a second or third vehicle, or a Chevy guy's alternative to the SVT Lightning, okay. As a primary vehicle, it's a little much. A classic case of an answer to a question I wonder how many are asking.
It doesn't feel as fast as the 380-hp SVT, but I'm guessing this thing would sprint to 60 in about eight seconds, impressive for a 5300-pounder. Throttle response is way good-if you boot it, the SS gets right down the road.
With nothing in the bed the ride is stiff but not too stiff, though road imperfections make the rear end jump around a little.
I think the truck is pretty good-looking. Imposing. Build quality on this particular model was good inside, though on the exterior I saw some wavy sheetmetal along the bottom of the doors.
