Too Much "We'

Monday's Issues & Insights page was the worst I've ever seen. If you expect me to be impressed by the remarks of a bunch of politicians who continually seek ways to spend more of our money, forget it. Especially rotten was the continued use of the pronoun "we," as if they were speaking for all the people of this country. As Mark Twain observed: "The pronoun "we' should be used only by rulers, editors and people with tapeworm."

Bush Should Visit Iraq

In "Media's Slant Deadly For American GIs" (Perspective, Thursday), Rep. Jim Marshall calls for a "few credible Baghdad Bobs" to counter our media's relentless negative portrayal of the situation in Iraq. How about a Baghdad George?

President Bush should go to Iraq. His presence alone would make a significant statement. To the American people, it would prove his optimism and his confidence. To the rest of the world, it would show his determination and commitment to complete Iraq's transformation.

The logistics of a safe trip are daunting. But who else can or will make our case?
