Health Care: Census data show that the number of Americans without insurance increased last year. While that's not good news, it's no reason to panic.
Because many Americans have adopted the entitlement mind-set, the fact that 43.6 million Americans, 15.2% of the population, lack health insurance will set off warnings about a public crisis.
It provides the elements that want to force socialist universal health care on the country with another swatch of wool they can use to pull over the eyes of the uninformed.
Let's be clear about a few things here. First, lacking health care insurance is not the same as lacking access to medical care. The uninsured are treated in this nation every day.
Granted, except for those wealthy enough to pay out of their pockets, it's not the best care. But the uninsured are not pitched out from health care facilities like last week's medical waste.
Second, some of the uninsured choose to go without health care coverage. Some make a conscious decision to spend their money elsewhere. Life is full of trade-offs, and some clearly believe it is in their best interests to forgo health care insurance and commit their resources for other uses.
It should not be assumed that every person who lacks medical insurance can't afford it. In fact, more than 75% of the uninsured are not living in poverty.
