A longtime North Valley restaurant has closed, chased out of business by competition from casino gambling and new chain restaurants, the owner says.

"I've been saying for two years that the little restaurants will be the first to go when gambling spread," said Fred Reade, owner of Antonio's, 5024 Fourth St. N.W.

Antonio's opened in January 1979. The 100-seat, New Mexico-style restaurant closed Dec. 31 and will reopen in a few months as Antonio's Far Better Imports, selling Mexican, South American and Central American goods.
