The Highway and Transportation Department says it will avoid mishaps like the closing of I-40 last weekend.

Good news for the people who manufacture orange barrels: the state of New Mexico's work on Interstate 40 should keep them in the black well into the next century.

I-40, like the rest of the interstate system, is approaching 40 years old. Rebar is rusting and things are falling apart.

The state Highway and Transportation Department has construction projects planned for the interstate until 2004. And, in the interest of avoiding nasty surprises, the highway department is publicizing those plans today.
