SANTA FE -- Educators may be turning cartwheels at a proposal to pour all the state's extra money into schools, but Roundhouse veterans are offering these words to the wise: Don't believe it.
Senate Democrats, led by Senate President Manny Aragon, announced a proposal on Tuesday to funnel the $130 million in extra money expected next year into public schools. That would bring schools to the halfway mark of the state's $3 billion budget but would leave a host of state programs in the cold.
