Jim Baca to announce 2nd run for mayor.

Former state Land Commissioner Jim Baca today planned to announce his candidacy for Albuquerque mayor.

"The next mayor will transition into the 21st century," he said Tuesday. "I think it would be fun to try to bring some sense of future planning to the city."

Baca said he will reveal his campaign platform, which he calls "Vision for 21st Century Albuquerque," at a news conference today.

Baca, 51, was twice elected as New Mexico's commissioner of public lands, in 1982 and 1990. Two years into the second term, he resigned the office to become director of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
