Regent criticizes UNM's financial-aid office.

In a rare public attack, University of New Mexico Regent Barbara Brazil blasted UNM's Financial Aid Office, saying she has received repeated complaints about "the quality and delivery of service."

"I am concerned and dismayed at the lack of progress in dealing with financial aid" for UNM students, Brazil said at a regents' meeting Thursday.

Ron Martinez, who became director of the Office of Student Financial Aid nine days ago, acknowledged after the meeting that there are "bottlenecks" in the office and that service needs to be improved.
