About 1,500 elementary students from all over visited El Rancho de Las Golondrinas (Ranch of the Swallows) during field trips to Santa Fe on Thursday. The 205-acre, 33-building Spanish ranch dates from the early 1700s and was the last stop on the Camino Real, one day out of Santa Fe. The ranch became a living-history museum in 1972. It grows wheat, squash, corn and melons, and raises chickens, goats, sheep, burros and horses, education curator Michael King said. The visiting season for the general public ended in September, but school groups can tour until Oct. 31.
