Pentagon officials have decided to rescind a directive from the commanding general at Fort Bliss, Texas, that denies full military honors to veterans and retirees not buried in the fort's national cemetery.

U.S. Rep. Joe Skeen, a Picacho Republican, had asked the secretary of the Army to rescind the policy, which denies full military honors for veterans buried in Southern New Mexico.

"On behalf of the women and men who have fought to defend our country, I'm extremely pleased with (the) decision," Skeen said in a statement. "The change in policy reflects our deepest sense of respect and gratitude toward veterans and …
