Finding a parking space and a hotel room Downtown could soon get a lot easier.

Mayor Jim Baca has sent a proposal to the City Council that calls for a private developer to build a 500-space garage just off Central and sell it back to the city for $6.8 million. The city would pay for the garage with gross receipts tax bonds. And it would pay down the debt with parking fees, according to the proposal.

But the parking garage is only the first step in the redevelopment of a block bounded by Copper, Central and Third Street. The garage would be linked by a skybridge to the old First National Bank …
