DA is investigating lost evidence at Belen Police Department.

BELEN The District Attorney's Office is looking into a report that an "extensive" amount of evidence, including cash, guns and drugs, has disappeared from the evidence room at the Belen Police Department.

District Attorney Mike Runnels said today the problem involves cases stretching back to 1989. He said he received a report from the Police Department on Tuesday.

"Anytime evidence is missing, it's a matter of serious concern," he said Wednesday. "I had no idea until I received this confidential report from the department that it was so extensive."
