SANTA FE Snow is on the mountain, but the Santa Fe school district, which has approved school ski trips for years, appears reluctant to commit to the program since the fatal crash of a bus carrying students and chaperones.

A private Shuttlejack bus carrying children crashed March 2 coming back from the last day of skiing at the Santa Fe Ski Area.

Eleven-year-old Eric Garcia, a sixth-grader at a Santa Fe elementary school, was killed when the bus crashed into a rock embankment after brakes on the bus failed. Gary Apodaca, 44, a chaperone on the trip, also was killed. Dozens of students and parents were injured.
