CART is winging it in 2000.

Championship Auto Racing Teams announced this week that a new rear-wing aerodynamic package will be adopted for eight races next year.

The Handford Device, a vertical plane on the rear wing, will have a companion: the Handford MkII Device.

This device, designed by former Swift engineer Mark Handford, will have high- and low-downforce versions and will be instituted at all small and medium ovals and one road course, Road America.

The high-downforce version will be utilized at five venues: Nazareth (Pa.), Rio de Janeiro, Milwaukee, Chicago and Road America. …
