It's time for N.M. to join the high-tech economy

Quaint, remote, poverty-encrusted New Mexico is ready to take "the next step" into the roiling mainstream of the future high-tech economy. A lot of what's holding it back is its own sluggishness at making the leap.

The six-week-old Next Generation Economy Initiative intends to change that. The new private-public partnership of central New Mexico business and civic leaders is scrutinizing the region's economy, looking for ways to diversify and strengthen it.
