Albuquerque fire officials took a break from hunting for illegal fireworks to play with some themselves.

Albuquerque Fire Department officials shot off bottle rockets and stuffed M-80s into pieces of fruit.

The flying chunks of watermelon and cantaloupe elicited whoops of satisfaction.

But the small fireworks show at the Albuquerque Fire Academy Thursday was more than just a few guys blowing stuff up.

It was a demonstration for the media aimed at educating the public about what shouldn't be played with this Fourth of July.
