Instead of the whine of her Saturn turning over in the morning, Carol Scurlock-Garcia will hear the digital tone of her modem connecting to City Hall once a week.

"I'll still have to drive through that mess four times a week," Scurlock-Garcia says.

The 5 1/2-year City Hall veteran who works in the Accounting Division is one of several city employees who will get to work during the two years of Big-I reconstruction without actually going to work.

In May, Mayor Jim Baca signed an executive instruction allowing some municipal employees to work from home.
