The portion of the U.S. Open gallery that dropped to their knees and bowed as Tiger Woods strolled deeper into history created the perfect symbol for what we saw on this Fathers' Day Sunday.

Because what we saw at Pebble Beach was royalty strolling toward a throne that nobody else deserves to grace.

What we saw was Tiger Woods bringing a game, a fabled course, and a talented field to their knees in humble acknowledgement of a superior.

What Tiger Woods did in this U.S. Open cannot be dismissed as a simple win.

What it really is is a statement of things to come now that the king has pulled the crown firmly …
