If Tariq Bashir survives, a star witness at his trial could be the police officer who shot him.

Bashir was in serious condition at University Hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the torso from the gun of a veteran Albuquerque police officer.

The officer, Gerald Roach, witnessed Bashir exit a vehicle and gun down another man on a busy Northeast Heights street, Detective John Walsh, a spokesman for the Albuquerque Police Department, said.

"It was incredible," Walsh said.

He said that in his 20 years as a police officer, he'd never heard of an officer witnessing a killing. …
