CAMPAIGN NOTEBOOK

Political strategists can make a strong argument that New Mexico is a waste of time for presidential candidates.

The state's five electoral votes are insignificant compared with the much bigger prizes waiting in the Midwest.

But judging from the attention the candidates and other out-of-state politicians and celebrities are giving to New Mexico, political leaders say it is obvious New Mexico is being taken seriously this year.

Aside from Republican candidate George W. Bush's third visit to the state on Friday, two other personalities were in town.
