Cody Toppert, an Albuquerque Academy basketball star and the son of a former Lobo, says he has given an oral commitment to attend Cornell University.

Toppert, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound shooting guard, is the third New Mexico high school senior known to have committed to Division I colleges this fall. Last week, 7-footer Chris Jackson of Los Alamos committed to Utah and Cibola's 6-foot-8 Chris Lange to Cal State-Sacramento.

Toppert said Monday he chose Cornell because "they have a young, energetic coach who has his goals set." Steve Donahue is head coach at the Ithaca, N.Y., Ivy League college.
