Compromise doesn't include vouchers or a cost estimate

SANTA FE Senate Democrats compromised with Republicans to push through a bill that could represent the best shot at overhauling the state's public schools.

After 3 1/2 hours of debate, the Senate voted 38-3 late Sunday to pass the school reform package.

But the plan was a bitter pill for some Democrats to swallow, especially since there are no assurances Gov. Gary Johnson will warm up to any bill that does not include school vouchers.
