Minor lodgers' tax boost could yield major results

If the Calgary Cannons baseball team moves to Albuquerque, will the Duke City witness new flocks of tourists winging in to catch a few innings?

That's unlikely, and it's one reason Sen. Manny Aragon cast a lone "no" vote in a committee hearing last week on upping the city's lodgers' tax to help renovate the old stadium or build a new one.

The New Mexico Hotel and Motel Association also opposed the proposal, but that didn't stop a bipartisan majority of the committee from keeping it alive.
