ZAANDAM, NETHERLANDS -- It would appear that Ahold will remain a significant presence after all in the United States, both in the retail and foodservice industry. During a tumultuous couple of weeks, the company affirmed that it would keep its U.S. retail business intact and work to rehabilitate its American foodservice division.

On Sept. 4, Ahold finally released long delayed 2002 results for two of its major businesses, the Stop & Shop supermarket chain in the United States and the Albert Heijn supermarket chain in the Netherlands.
