Chinese state-owned oil firm CNPC has bought a 35pc stake in Kazakhstan's North Buzachi oil field and will eventually take over as its sole operator. CNPC bought the stake from Saudi firm Nimir Petroleum and plans to buy out the remaining 65pc from ChevronTexaco (FSUE, 15 August, p4).
