Auntie Pasto's expands to Mainland. (Italian eatery to open franchise in Houston, Texas)

Auntie Pasto's, a small Honolulu success story making big profits with simplicity, is expanding its restaurant operation to the Mainland. The family-style Italian eatery will open in Houston in April.

"We're taking the same operating philosophy and taking it on the road," said Ed Wary, who along with his wife, Vicki, opened Auntie Pasto's at the corner of Beretania and Pensacola streets in 1983.

Expansion of the couple's Auntie Pasto's concept to Mainland involves eight other investors.

The start-up cost of the Texas restaurant is about $400,000, including equipment, leasehold improvements and licenses.
