2003 SEP 10 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- With capacity to examine 20,000 genes per day, The Windber Research Institute is working on the discovery and administration of vaccines in a trial aimed at stopping the spread of breast and other forms of cancer.
Windber's findings were used to develop the vaccines by the Immunology Research Center at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. The experimental vaccines are being administered to patients at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, and the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center, a component of the Windber Medical Center in Windber, Pennsylvania.
The Windber Research Institute has created an integrated high throughput research facility to study the function of genes and proteins related to human reproductive cancers and cardiovascular disease.
