E-tailer eBay Inc. is pushing deeper into wholesale.
In October, eBay plans to start an ad campaign to tell businesses that it can help them buy and sell products in bulk online.
EBay's plan to send e-mails to small retailers and place print ads in wholesale trade publications follows efforts to set up wholesale categories on its site to sell items in bulk.
In large part, eBay is looking for businesses looking to sell excess inventory or distressed goods to resellers. The resellers might then sell to retailers.
The new marketing push is aimed at the Christmas shopping season, says Karl Wiley, senior category manager of wholesale for eBay.
"We call it a holiday wholesale blowout," he said. "We're letting small retailers know they can buy their inventory on eBay, and letting sellers know they can source their inventory on eBay."
