4 It was a simple cable TV commercial that changed C.J. Desantis' life.
It was an ad for a distance-learning course at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Desantis, founder and president of eLearners.com, lived in New York City at the time and wasn't satisfied with the educational options in his region.
He enrolled in the Educational Technology Leadership Program at the university, where he received his master's degree in education without ever stepping foot on campus.
"I had already been to some high-quality educational schools, but that master's course was by far the best educational experience of my life," said Desantis.
The experience was so positive that Desantis launched eLearners.com, a Web site that connects individuals seeking degrees with distance-education firms.
