Caremark picks up AdvancePCS
Late Tuesday, the pharmacy benefit manager said it'd buy its rival for $5 bil, valuing AdvancePCS at $54.61 a share. Caremark will swap the equivalent of 2.15 shares per Advance share. 90% will be in stock, 10% in cash. Advance, which has mostly managed care clients, rose 19% to a new high of 47.45. Caremark, which focuses on employers, fell 8% to 23.30.
Lilly falls on duloxetine concerns
The FDA wants the drug maker to complete more studies and fix manufacturing problems related to duloxetine before it will approve the urinary incontinence drug. Eli Lilly said the FDA's concerns may affect plans to launch another form of the same chemical compound for depression. Lilly wilted 7% to 62.11.
Cigna, doctors reach settlement
As expected, the HMO reached a proposed settlement worth over $500 mil in a class-action suit filed by doctors alleging Cigna and other HMOs shortchanged them on payments for their services.
