Airline traffic stabilized in August
Southwest's load factor rose half a point to 73.2%. AirTran's traffic soared 33%, while its load factor rose to 78% from 71%, driving an 8% surge in its shares. Continental saw a 1.7% rise in traffic, as its load factor rose 3.1 points to 82.2%. Its shares rose 6%. American's traffic fell 1.7%, but it cut capacity 6.5%. Shares of parent AMR rose 9% to a new 52-week high of 12.73 as bankruptcy fears further recede.

Coach sees Q1 profit above views
The maker of luxury handbags and accessories expects at least 36 cents a share on $245 mil in sales. Analysts see 34 cents, up 42%, on $233 mil in sales, up 21%. For the year, Coach sees $1.95, a cent over Wall Street views. Rival luxury goods makers Gucci and Prada cited good sales on Tuesday. Coach rose 2% to 59.28, another high.
