--I enjoyed Jay Nordlinger's "Take Your Boxes and . . ." (Aug. 11) and look forward to the problem that will soon face racialist bureaucrats once more of us start giving confusing answers!
Luckily, there is a great legal resource to which these bureaucrats can turn: They certainly will benefit from the large number of law cases from the ante-bellum and Jim Crow South in which judges labored to explain and interpret the distinctions between mulattoes, octoroons, quadroons, and the like.

--It is one of my strongest personal policies to immediately challenge anyone who refers to fellow travelers as "intellectuals." In David Pryce-Jones's otherwise excellent article, "The New Fellow-Traveling" (June 30), he does just that. IQ to the contrary notwithstanding, anyone who swallows the Communist, socialist, or militant Muslim line is dumber than dirt.
