Fewer children given antibiotics

Prescriptions for U.S. children ages 3 months to 3 years fell 6%-39% in '96-'00, researchers said in Pediatrics. Researchers have urged less use of antibiotics to help avoid creating resistant bacteria. Doctors diagnosed fewer kids with otitis media, an ear infection common in small kids. It often clears up on its own.
