Spa is back

Formula One Management has signed a contract to return the Belgian Grand Prix to Spa until 2010. The 2004 race-the beneficiary of the specially formulated waiver of anti-tobacco legislation by the parliament in Brussels-will be held Aug. 29.

Duo to get BAR test

The BAR Formula One team will give newly crowned FIA F3000 champion Bjorn Wirdheim a test in one of its cars this month, along with his Arden International teammate Townsend Bell. Wirdheim will also test for Jordan Grand Prix.

Cutting costs

As it looks at ways of reducing costs to its World Rally Championship competitors, the FIA is evaluating a proposal requiring engines last for two events between rebuilds. WRC engine rebuilds can cost $85,000 and are carried out for every rally. The same principle might be applied to body shells, with a limit of seven per season per driver. The FIA will force F1 teams to run one engine per weekend starting next season.
