When Georgia Hiser's grandchildren were little she transformed her garage into a place meant just for them. She covered the floor with a rug, hooked up a record player and brought in plenty of books and interesting "stuff."
"In the summertime, that was our place," Hiser said. "We'd go out and read and we'd play records and we'd draw and color."
Hiser, 67, and a member of the Bear Canyon Senior Center, said having fun together is what "grandmas and kids do I don't regret one minute I spent with those kids."
Now, Hiser shares her special grandmother qualities with other children in a city of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs volunteer program called Generation Connection.
The program brings children, from preschool through high school, and older adults together through a variety of activities meant to benefit both generations.…
