Neither e-mail nor electronic bill paying nor online tax filing has kept the U.S. Postal Service from meeting its appointed rounds - and racking up five straight years of profits. But the growing threat of the Internet shouldn't be underestimated. The General Accounting Office warned in a report earlier this year that the Postal Service "may be nearing the end of an era." Billions of dollars in revenue are at risk from growing online competition. Not that the Postal Service will let that revenue disappear without a fight.
