Rep. Doug Bereuter, R-Neb., is chasing the chairmanship of the House International Relations Committee like a dog after a loose steak bone.
He's spent two years preparing for the chairmanship. He's traveled to hot spotsaround the world. He even gave up a shot at a Senate seat for it.
Bereuter already chairs a subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific. He might have been a shoo-in to chair the full committee but for the co
alition of conservatives against him.
