Cypress Semiconductor Corp. Chief Executive T.J. Rodgers often - quite often - is called the "bad boy" of Silicon Valley. It's a well-earned reputation.

He has stood virtually alone against the rest of the chip industry on such issues as accepting federal funds for research. And there are his celebrated battles with the likes of the Rev. Jesse Jackson and a Catholic nun.

But there are signs that Rodgers, 52, is turnin

g into a card-carrying member of the establishment.

For one thing, he chaired the Semiconductor Industry Association for the year ended Nov. 1. As the biggest chip industry trade group, the SIA is the very embodiment of the Silicon Valley establishment.
