With Another Big Sell-Off
1Pre-holiday sessions are supposed to be quiet. But the Nasdaq ended the year in fitting style - investors dumped large tech stocks and the composite tumbled3.4% on heavier volume. That left the Nasdaq down 39.3% for 2000, the worst since its inception in 1971. The day's institutional selling cast fresh doubt on whether the current rally can continue in the new year. 2President-elect Bush named Houston School chief Rod Paige to be education secretary. He's the second black to join Bush's Cabinet. Former Colorado Attorney General Gale Norton was tapped for the Interior Department. Anthony J.Principi was named as secretary of veterans affairs. He's a Navy vet and was that office's deputy under President Bush. Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson was named to head Health and Human Services, the government's largest civilian agency.
