Leonardo da Vinci - painter, sculptor, architect and engineer - drew the first known plans for aircraft, including a helicopter; devised the first designs formachine guns, tanks and submarines; made the first accurate human anatomical drawings; and painted "The Last Supper" and "Mona Lisa," among hundreds of other achievements.
According to author Michael Gelb, Leonardo's output was due more to the way he thought than to an innate set of abili
ties.
No Limits
From early childhood on, Leonardo (1452-1519) refused to put limits on himself. He followed his curiosity and imagination in a multitude of directions. The result: He developed skills in an amazingly broad range of fields.
What separates us from Leonardo, Gelb says, is that we take the path of least resistance. We develop one or two abilities, define ourselves by those skills and think in traditional ways.
Leonardo, though, saw a world of possibilities, pursued them vigorously and became the quintessential Renaissance man.
