Two-thirds of public support Bush,
half have confidence in him: polls
Public doubt about incoming presidents, especially on matters such as international affairs, isn't unusual toward Washington newcomers such as RonaldReagan or Bill Clinton. The public had roughly the same levels of confidence in all three incoming presidents on the economy, and about seven in 10 had at least some confidence in their abilities. People are evenly split on their
confidence in George Bush's handling of foreign affairs, about the same as their feelings toward Reagan as he entered office 20 years ago.
First lady Hillary Rodham Clinton tops the list of women most admired by Americans, according to a CNN/USA Today poll, with 19% of the total. Oprah Winfrey and Margaret Thatcher came in second at 4%.
President Clinton and Pope John Paul II each received 6% on the men's list, followed by Bush and Vice President Al Gore at 5%.
Bush's spokesman Ari Fleischer visited the White House to check out his future office and seek advice from his predecessor.
