Byline: 50 WAYS TO BE A POP STAR: Simon's music has been a bridge over troubled decades, and fans still love him like a rock.
By Nancy Gondo
Investor's Business Daily
Sixteen-year-old Paul Simon first tasted success in 1957 as one half of Tom and Jerry with the Billboard hit "Hey Schoolgirl."
Had he sat on his laurels and not kept honing his musical skills, he'd have gone down in music history as a one-hit wonder.
Instead, he pursued his career with such passion that he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month for the second time. This time, he earned the honor as a solo artist. The first time was in 1990 as part of Simon and Garfunkel -- the original Tom and Jerry themselves.
"From the release of the watershed album "Graceland' to his work for film and even Broadway, Paul Simon is one of rock's true visionaries," said a spokesman for the Hall of Fame.
