Nasdaq Plunges To Low

As Profit Warnings Pile Up

1The Nasdaq tumbled 6.2% to its lowest level since October 1998. The tech-laden index is now 67% off its March 2000 peak. The Dow industrials shed 3% while the S&P 500 lost 3.4% to a new 52-week closing low. Internet, computerand software stocks saw some of the worst losses. U.S. Officials Meet Crew;

Chinese Demand Apology

2The diplomats pronounced the crew of the U.S. spy plane in good health. Thecrew and Navy EP-3 remained in China two days after the aircraft collided witha Chinese fighter jet and made an emergency landing in China. U.S. officials said it seemed China will insist on an apology before the crew can leave. President Bush said the incident could undermine U.S.-Chinese ties. More on A5
