When upgrading their PC, few users think about audio.
They'll start out by upgrading their new hard drive, then maybe add a monitor. Only then will they think about a new audio card or speakers.

There's a few reasons for this audio apathy. For one, most users are pretty satisfied with the audio setup that came with their PC. What's more, many usersdon't know much about the sound equipment available.
Your PC's audio system consists of two components. The first is the sound card in your PC, which actually generates the audio -- from a game, a compact disc or the digital soundtrack on a DVD.
