Apple Computer retailers are treating the next Macintosh operating system release like it's the latest Harry Potter book.

Store owners nationwide are planning parties, midnight madness sales, T-shirt giveaways and in-store demos for Mac OS X (the Roman numeral for 10), which goes on sale Saturday.

But whether Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs can show the wizardry of the fictional Potter is another story.
