Byline: PERSISTENT POET: Frost worked in obscurity for many years before finally getting a book of his poems published.
By Michael Mink
Investor's Business Daily
Robert Frost refused to compromise his dreams, no matter how bleak his situation looked.
When he was 20, Frost (1874-1963) dropped out of Dartmouth College, where he'd been on scholarship. He didn't like the structure of college courses, preferring to read what he liked when he liked. He wanted to be a poet.
To support himself, Frost embarked on a series of jobs ranging from mill laborer to newspaper writer to teacher.
In the evenings, he wrote poetry and managed to get one poem published, but his life was still a struggle.
